Roadways

Driving is the main mode of transportation throughout Bahrain. All four islands, towns and cities throughout the country are accessible by well-paved and maintained highways and roadways.

An international highway connects Bahrain with one of its closest neighbors, Saudi Arabia. The King Fahd Causeway, connects Bahrain and Saudi Arabia through a multiple-dike bridge that is 16 miles long.

Buses

The bus system in Bahrain is reliable and relatively inexpensive, connecting most of the island’s areas and towns. You pay a minimum fare and more for longer trips. National buses run every 40 minutes at Manama bus station, located at Government Avenue, between 9am and 6pm. Private buses and minibuses cover the main routes of the country as well, and are priced per trip. The main challenge is working out the routes, but you can always ask a staff member to help guide you in figuring that out.

Taxis

Bahrain’s taxi prices are affordable and there are plenty of reliable taxi companies. If the driver doesn’t use the meter during your trip, you are not obligated to pay. If you decide to take a taxi for a longer trip, you should haggle and agree upon a price before departing on your journey.

Flying

Bahrain International Airport is located in Muharraq, an island about 7 km (4.3 mi) northeast of the capital Manama. Bahrain’s proximity to the northern region of the Persian Gulf makes the airport strategically located between Saudi Arabia and Iran and enables it to offer a high range of regional air services with convenient connections to major international destinations.
