Naval Sea Logistics Center (NAVSEALOGCEN) consists of 1,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel located at 30 sites in 12 states and Washington, D.C. The Command provides integrated logistics, engineering, and information technology expertise to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), the Department of the Navy (DON), the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and Federal agencies. The Command maintains five primary technical capabilities: Integrated Product Support for surface and undersea systems, including acquisition and lifecycle logistics policy and process oversight, data analytics, and engineering support for the Level I / Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) and Deep Submergence System-Scope of Certification (DSS-SOC) stock programs; Central Design Agent for Navy and NAVSEA corporate logistics data systems, including supplier quality and performance systems; management of NAVSEA’s Planned Maintenance System; management of NAVSEA Warfare Center Operating Materials and Supplies; and engineering for surface & undersea systems.
Although NAVSEALOGCEN has a legacy dating back to the 1960s, the Command was formally established in November 1986 as an Echelon III field activity reporting to NAVSEA, following the merger of three autonomous, single-discipline activities: Naval Sea Logistics Support Engineering Activity, Naval Electronic Systems Command Detachment Mechanicsburg, and Navy Ships Parts Control Center Maintenance Support Office. The objective of the merger was to combine engineering and logistics support communities to provide the Navy with a Logistics Center of Excellence supporting shipboard operations.
In October 2011, NAVSEALOGCEN became a Navy Working Capital Fund activity when it joined the Naval Undersea Warfare Center enterprise.
In August 2015, NAVSEALOGCEN began a significant expansion of its warehouse management capability when it was designated as the Operating Materials and Supplies Warehouse Management service provider for eight Surface and two Undersea Warfare Divisions. Today, NAVSEALOGCEN manages over 2.3 million square feet of warehouse space, containing 200,000 line items valued at more than $7 billion.
