Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion & Repair - Newport News, VA

Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, USN, Newport News (SUPSHIPNN) is the liaison between the Department of the Navy and Huntington Ingalls Industries – Newport News Shipbuilding (HII-NNS) who is engaged in the design and construction of new nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers as well as the repair and modernization of submarines and aircraft carriers in the Fleet.

It is the Supervisor's responsibility to administer all contracts, outfit the ships, assure that the technical and quality assurance requirements of the contracts are fully met, ascertain that satisfactory production schedules are maintained, and ensure that the final product delivered to the Fleet is ready to sail "in harms way."

Today, SUPSHIP Newport News has approximately 495 civilians and 51 military that support this mission.

Mr. Bockwoldt assumed his current duties as the Deputy Supervisor of Shipbuilding at Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion, and Repair, Newport News in January 2014.

From July 2012 to December 2013, Mr. Bockwoldt served as the Assistant Technical Director for Quality at Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center (CNRMC) in Norfolk, Va. In this position, he was responsible for managing all aspects of Quality Assurance (QA) policy for, and quality assurance oversight of, the Navy’s six Regional Maintenance Centers’ (RMCs’) execution of surface ship maintenance for over 160 ships. He established and promulgated policies, plans, goals, and procedures for QA functions at the Nation’s RMCs. 

Prior to assuming his position with CNRMC in July 2012, Mr. Bockwoldt served as a Nuclear Engineering Duty Officer in the U. S. Navy for 22 years while permanently assigned to NAVSEA 08/Naval Reactors in Washington, D.C. As a Naval Officer, Mr. Bockwoldt served in several senior leadership positions with Naval Reactors including the Senior Naval Reactors Representative, Norfolk filling an SES position and reporting directly to Admiral Donald the Director of the Naval Reactors Program. In this position, he was responsible to the Director of Naval Reactors for all matters related to nuclear safety, emergency response, and regulatory oversight during overhaul, refueling, testing, operation and crew training of nuclear-powered ships at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Naval Station Norfolk, and King’s Bay Naval Submarine Base/Trident Training Facility. He also served in various GS-15 positions with Naval Reactors including the Atomic Power Laboratory Project Officer, Group Head for Reactor Thermal Hydraulic Development, and Group Head for Control Drive Mechanism Design and Development. He retired from active duty in August 2012.
