DSEND Conducts Open Water Evaluations

The DSEND 1 ATA dive suit development team successfully conducts the first open water evaluations with the DSEND Prototype suit at NUWC in Keyport, WA.

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii — Members of Task Force Arizona, Navy Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), and local contractors deployed booms, or floating barriers, as part of preservation work at the USS Arizona Memorial, Sept. 3, 2025. In addition to continuous monitoring and protective measures, booms were placed out of an abundance of caution in the unlikely event that the preservation work causes pollutants to enter the water. Personnel from Navy Region Hawaii, SUPSALV, U.S. Navy’s Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 1 and local contractors will work together to remove two mooring platforms from the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, working with the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), began wreckage removal operations on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the site of the Potomac River Aviation Incident near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. All salvage operations will be completed in close coordination with the Unified Command to ensure strict adherence to the central priority of the dignified recovery of missing flight passengers and personnel. Salvage off runway at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay

Capsule Recovery Team

A Navy Dive team from Expeditionary Unit One along with contractors from the 1AF and Neutral Buoyancy Lab recovered the Orion Crew Module after its historic flight around the moon in December of 2022.

Hub Change out Cofferdam being lowered into the water

Navy Certifies SATFADS System

The U.S. Navy completed 600fsw recertification dives in the Gulf of Mexico marking the completion of the reactivation of the Saturation Flyaway Diving System (SATFADS). The system, which is transportable via sea or air, allows divers to work at depths and duration beyond those achievable with surface supplied diving practices to support critical undersea missions. SATFADS first planned mission is supporting DPAA in recovering remains from the WWII B-24 Heaven Can Wait off Papua New Guinea.
