Range Operations Notification

This page provides information and regular updates on range operations at our Strauss Avenue Thermal Treatment Point (SATTP) at Indian Head, and Range 3 at Stump Neck. Both ranges are used to treat or test military munitions which may impact public access or have noticeable characteristics such as noise or smoke. The information on this page is primarily directed at public personnel using the waterways around the installation, as they may be impacted by our operations. Range 3 schedule, restrictions and expected conditions:

No operations are scheduled.

SATTP operations schedule, restrictions and expected conditions:

SATTP operations are scheduled for the week of Oct. 13, Tuesday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Noticeable impacts such as noise and smoke are expected to last for approximately 30 minutes to one hour.

Operations are expected to create INTENSE noise, POPPING or BANGING sounds and INTENSE FLAMES with HEAVY ABUNDANT smoke on and around the Mattawoman Creek channel between channel marker Green "1" and Red "6," especially in the vicinity of Flashing Green "3."

Boaters are prohibited from navigating the Mattawoman Creek between channel markers Green "1" and Red "6." It is recommended that boat traffic should operate as far south as possible when navigating the Mattawoman Creek channel between channel marker Green "1" and Red "6," especially in the vicinity of Flashing Green "3."
