Housing

Housing in Bahrain differs greatly depending on which area you decide to live. The above neighborhood is called Floating City and located on the Islands of Amwaj, which has become popular for ex-Pats due to the beautiful sea views and newly-constructed restaurants and shopping centers.

The Housing Service Center (HSC) on base can be an extremely helpful resource as you search for your new home in Bahrain. The HSC counselors will assist in locating a residence by:

  • Providing a list of approved rental agents/managers
  • Providing showing services
  • Providing a pre-contract
  • Negotiating rental contracts
  • Conducting a security inspection of the home before you move in
  • Providing expertise and copies of lease agreements

All DoD Civilians reside off base in a villa (house), or flat/three-high (apartment/condo). Before arriving, it is helpful to do some research about the housing process and the links below will be helpful for your research. Once you arrive, be proactive in looking for homes throughout Bahrain until you find the place that is right for your situation. If you have school age children, you will want to check with the school transportation office for current bus route information.

Many (but not all) villas and flats come fully or semi-furnished. In a fully furnished villa, everything beside your personal belongings and clothes are provided. This includes pots, pans, utensils, bed covers, pillows, new mattress, sheets, etc. For many, this is the most convenient option but there are also some who prefer moving with their household goods (HHGS).

Realtors can be helpful when looking for a place to live but are not a requirement. It is strongly recommended to avoid committing to any property prior to your arrival. This protects your interests and is also a part of the housing office‘s standard procedures.

There are many property management companies in Bahrain but three of the most frequently used are: Royal Ambassador Bahrain, Century 21 and Iris property Management W.L.L.
