What is it?

This modification revises control setpoints for AC condenser water control valves and investigates transient conditions, such as starts and cooling load fluctuations.

How does it work?

The specific power (kw per cooling ton) of the 200-ton HFC-134a AC plant is much higher than expected and unnecessary fuel and energy is being consumed. An increased setpoint will allow the ship to use less energy to function as the temperature gets closer to the optimal ship design temperature at which the ship was intended to operate.

What will it accomplish?

Revising setpoints will use less energy and investigating transient conditions will ensure shutdowns are not experienced with new setpoints.
