What is it?

The Smart Voyage Planning Decision Aid (SVPDA) reduces energy consumption by exploiting knowledge of the physical environment including wind, currents, waves, and ship hull form characteristics to plan the optimal transit route.

How does it work?

Available capabilities from the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (METOC) will be used to take advantage of optimized route planning whenever mission allows.  The SVPDA system will be implemented at the Fleet Weather Centers (FWC), where the optimized routes will be pushed to all Navy ships.

What will it accomplish?

Using knowledge of the physical environment allows the SVPDA to plan optimal routes, when allowed for by the mission, to reduce overall energy consumption.
