The military community in the Naples area is spread out so for many, driving a car is a necessity. There are four main bases in the Naples area. Depending on where you live and work will determine your vehicle needs. Naval Support Activity Naples is made up of Capodichino Navy Base located by the Naples Airport and Support Site in Gricignano di Aversa, approximately 20 minutes north. Capodichino (“Capo”) is home to most Navy commands including SIXTH fleet and FDRMC offices. Support Site includes the majority of base services for the area including housing, NEX, commissary, hospital, recreation activities (bowling, movie theater, auto hobby shop), DoD school/CDC, vet clinic, Navy Lodge, etc. The Allied Joint Force Command is located in Lago Patria and NAS Gaeta is located half the way between Naples and Rome. The base is actually a co-base. It is operated by the US Army, but under the relegations of the Italian government.
