NSWC Dahlgren Division Engineer to be Honored for Impacting Ainsley’s Angels Running Events

IMAGE: DAHLGREN, Va. - Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) engineer Benjamin Tritt, cofounder of the Fredericksburg Ainsley's Angels Ambassadorship, nears the finish line of a 5K road race pushing a specially designed running 'chariot'. Tritt will be honored with the NSWCDD Distinguished Community Service Award at the upcoming virtual honorary awards ceremony scheduled to be broadcast in July.

NSWC Crane to hold Change of Command Ceremony

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) held a formal Change of Command Ceremony on Wednesday, July 1. Capt. Duncan McKay relieved Capt. Mark Oesterreich after three years as NSWC Crane’s 29th Commanding Officer. Capt. Oesterreich will retire from the U.S. Navy after 29 years of service.

NSWC PCD Mine Warfare team overcomes challenges to support fleet sustainment needs

The Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) Mine Warfare Sustainment Division completed combat systems equipment harvesting on three Avenger Class Mine Countermeasure  ships scheduled for decommissioning in August 2020.  The effort led by the NSWC PCD, crossed multiple PMS 495 programs, and was internally supported by NSWC PCD’s contracting and property management teams.

Wessel was among the NSWCDD scientists and engineers who joined university professors at the workshop to share best practices and ideas for project based learning in STEM with elementary, middle, and high school educators. The forum featured briefings and demonstrations while the educators participated in hands-on activities that they could pass on to other teachers and students at their respective schools. The activities included, “Straw Rockets and Mini-Railgun”, “Ozobots and Littlebits Engineering”, and “EV3 LEGO Robotics”.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS: NSWC Crane employees provide rapid response to ensure special operators worldwide received personal protective gear during pandemic

NSWC Crane employees in the Mobile Technology and Repair Complex (MTRC) program used their unique skillset to provide Special Operations Forces (SOF) personal protective gear (PPG) during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

When the COVID-19 pandemic spread throughout the world, demand was high for PPG. MTRC personnel made thousands of masks made for civilians at Crane and Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) as well as to military members and the SOF community in Afghanistan, Africa, and Europe. Along with these masks, MTRC personnel also created other protective and COVID-19 specific gear including test tube holders, face shields, desk shields, door openers, and isolation chambers for helicopters.

IMAGE: VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Yeoman 2nd Class (AW) Joshua Kelley joined the Navy in 2016 and is currently making a positive impact at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Dam Neck Activity (DNA) where he leads the command’s administration services. “As an administration specialist I get to help many people at the command and make a difference for everyone,” said Kelley, “Also, I get to work with one of the best people in the field of administration and when working with great people it creates a positive impact and growth.” During his free time, Kelley enjoys volunteering with Stonewall Sports Norfolk in the Hampton Roads LGBTQ+ Community by performing as the drag queen, Harpy Daniels. “The diversity and acceptance from everyone at the command allows me to be comfortable with myself in a professional setting and gain respect and opportunities like everyone else,” said Kelley. His goal is to spread moral, entertainment, and positivity for all. “Stonewall Sports Norfolk fosters and creates a safe and fun environment for the people of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies here in the Hampton Roads area,” he said. “With a positive attitude you can make a bad day a good one and even inspire those around you.” (U.S. Navy photo/Released)
