      <title>NSWC Panama City Division’s MEASUR: Revolutionizing underwater safety through subsea recognition</title>
      <link>https://www.navsea.navy.mil/Media/News/Article-View/Article/4538103/nswc-panama-city-divisions-measur-revolutionizing-underwater-safety-through-sub/</link>
      <description>Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division scientists are revolutionizing subsea battle damage assessment with a groundbreaking initiative called MEASUR (Mission Effectiveness &amp; Assessment with Subsea Recognition). By equipping unmanned underwater vehicles with advanced sensors and AI, this system represents a significant leap forward in how the U.S. Navy evaluates underwater threats and infrastructure. This innovative approach provides combatant commanders with rapid, reliable data to accelerate decision-making and keep our warfighters safe in contested waters. MEASUR is funded by the Naval Innovative Science and Engineering program, which is one of the Navy's most powerful mechanisms for launching technologies that Navy Labs produce into the hands of the warfighter.&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;img src='https://media.defense.gov/2026/Jul/08/2003958858/150/150/0/260506-N-PB086-1007.JPG' alt='Members of the Mission Effectiveness &amp;amp; Assessment with Subsea Recognition (MEASUR) team (from left) Dr. Spencer Chang, Dr. Adriana McKinney and Dr. Tony Diaz, are shown with the Science &amp;amp; Technology Engineering Innovation Vehicle, or STEIV, at NSWC Panama City Division’s test pond. She played a crucial role in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, actively defending sea lanes from 1797 to 1855. During normal operations, the active-duty Sailors stationed aboard USS Constitution provide free tours and welcome more than 600,000 visitors annually, supporting the ship’s mission of promoting the Navy’s history and maritime heritage, and raising awareness of the importance of a sustained naval presence.
