Oravec Relieves Hoffman at NSWC Dahlgren Division – Dam Neck Activity

More than 200 Sailors and guests attended a traditional Change of Command ceremony at Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana’s Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit’s ceremonial hangar aboard NAS Oceana June 27 where Hoffman was relieved of command by Oravec. Oravec became the command’s 28th commanding officer.

NSWC Dahlgren Division STEM Mentors Inspire Youth at Annual Summer Academy

(June 26, 2019) – A middle school student prepares for an aerospace engineering rocketry activity at the 2019 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) Summer Academy, held June 24-28. She was among 70 middle school students who constructed and calibrated their water rockets while discovering the optimal amount of fuel (water) to launch a ball the highest. The STEM Summer ‘campers’ worked in teams to organize and analyze their data in order to determine what fuel volume will result in the highest launch.

NSWC Dahlgren Division Kicks off 2019 STEM Summer Academy

(June 26, 2019) - Middle school students build a robot at the 2019 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD)-sponsored Navy science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) Summer Academy, held June 24-28. They are among 70 middle school students who are developing their teamwork and problem-solving skills in math and science while partnering with a teacher and an NSWCDD scientist or engineer. The STEM Summer ‘campers’ will deploy the robots they design, build, and program to respond to 10 missions - including the delivery of humanitarian aid, rotating troops and transporting an electromagnetic railgun to the deck of a Navy ship – by the end of the week-long academy.

New Supervisors Propel Toward Success at NAVSEA Warfare Centers

They completed a five-day course called 'Propel' that provides an introductory level awareness of Warfare Center expectations for supervisors. The NSWCDD tour and briefings - focusing on the Electromagnetic Railgun Facility, the Potomac River Test Range, and the Human Performance Laboratory - gave the Propel students a deeper look into the work at Dahlgren. Junior Navy Scientists, Engineers Develop Integration Capability for Electric Weapons
