USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) Completes Builder's Trials

GULF OF MEXICO - The Navy's future amphibious transport dock, John P. Murtha (LPD 26) successfully completed Builder's Trials March 4. The principal mission of LPD 17 San Antonio class ships is to deploy combat and support elements of Marine Expeditionary Units and Brigades. With the capability of transporting and debarking air cushion or conventional landing craft and augmented by helicopters or MV-22 vertical take-off and landing aircraft, these ships support amphibious assault, special operations, and expeditionary warfare missions. NNSY Completes USS Maryland’s Engineered Refueling Overhaul

160212-N-SY521-003 NORFOLK, Virginia (Feb. 12, 2016) USS Maryland (SSBN 738) is readied for return to the fleet following the completion of its engineered refueling overhaul. Maryland is the 13th of 18 operational Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines and is homeported in Kings Bay, Georgia.

Ernest Yelder, Cybersecurity Technical Lead  at Combat Direction Systems Activity, Dam Neck accepts his 2016 Black Engineer of the Year Award during the 30th Annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) in Philadelphia February 20.  Yelder is only one of three Navy engineers honored this year and the only one from Hampton Roads.

DAHLGREN, Va. - Capt. Brian Durant, Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) commander, presents the Dahlgren history book, "The Sound of Freedom," to Dr. William Bundy, Gravely Naval Warfare Research Group director, at the 2016 Black History Month Observance, Feb. 11.  "The research and development progress that was shared with me on the railgun and directed energy systems was very reassuring," said Bundy, a U.S. Naval War College professor who toured NSWCDD electromagnetic railgun and directed energy facilities after inspiring a military and civilian audience with his keynote speech at the observance. "Those capabilities will certainly deliver advantages for our maritime forces.  It was absolutely encouraging to witness first-hand the remarkable effort and work that is continuing today at Dahlgren."
