Who needs to perform laser inventories?                

All parties with lasers under their control need to ensure that those lasers (if military exempt, Class 3B, or Class 4) are inventoried. For some installations, this could be the base LSSO, the wing LSSO, or their designee. If you are the LSSO, chances are that it is your responsibility to maintain the laser inventory.
                           



What lasers need to be inventoried?                                  

OPNAVINST 5100.27/MCO 5104.1 requires that all lasers that are either military exempt, class 3B, or Class 4 be inventoried.  
           


           
When are inventories performed?                  

OPNAVINST 5100.27/MCO 5104.1 requires that inventories be maintained continuously, however, they only are required be submitted to the ALA upon request. Per SECNAVINST 5100.14D, all Navy and Marine Corps activities that procure, possess, use, store, or dispose of laser products that are designed for combat, combat training, or that are classified in the interst of nation security shall maintain inventory control and permanent record of the status of all military exempt lasers, including their ultimate disposition. SECNAVINST 5100.14D requires that BUMED maintain and update the inventory of all military exempt laser types in the Navy and Marine Corps by 30 October of each year. Thus, Navy and Marine Corps activities with military exempt lasers should submit their inventories to BUMED prior to 15 October of each year.  


           
What is the format for a laser inventory report?                             

Enclosures 10 and 11 of OPNAVINST 5100.27/MCO 5104.1 include standardized forms for inventory reporting.
