NSWCDD iLab Hosts Wargaming Hackathon with Summer Interns

The bootcamp portion included tutorials on modeling and simulation concepts. The afternoon session included surface warfare scenarios followed by increasingly more difficult scenarios where participants used their acquired M&S skills to defeat the enemy. This event provided an overview of Naval capabilities across all departments.

Lower mentors STEM-Student Employment Program (SSEP) interns at the command's Future Systems Software Development Branch. Charney interned with the branch while on breaks from college. Now he's a full-time NSWCDD scientist, thanks to what he calls a "seamless transition" after graduation. "I had no idea that I could have worked here before I graduated," said Lower. (July 25, 2019) — University of Virginia junior Kimberly Louie explains how the deck-gun she helped create and attach to a drone operates while briefing to military and government personnel during her 2019 summer internship. Louie was among 20 students who completed their internships at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). The Naval Research Enterprise Internship  Program (NREIP) encourages students to pursue science and engineering careers, furthers education via mentoring and their participation in research, and makes them aware of Navy research and technology efforts, which can lead to civilian employment within the Navy.
