By Amanda Cartagena-Urena, PHNSY&IMF Public Affairs Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility

The Honorable David Ige, Governor of Hawaii (Governor David Ige), visited Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) March 17, 2022, with Anne Perreira-Eustaquio, Director, Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, and Dr. Erika Lacro, Vice President for Community Colleges, University of Hawaii at Manoa, to discuss shipyard operational updates, including educational partnerships, workforce development and infrastructure improvements with Captain Richard Jones, Shipyard Commander, Mr. John Ornellas, Nuclear Engineering & Planning Manager and additional shipyard leadership.

PHNSY & IMF is a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command and a one-stop regional maintenance center for the Navy’s surface ships and submarines. It is the largest industrial employer in the state of Hawaii. It is the most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East, strategically located in the heart of the Pacific, being about a week’s steaming time closer to potential regional contingencies in the Indo-Pacific.
