Deputy Commander for Industrial Operations Visits Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard

Rear Adm. Scott Brown visited Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) in May to review shipyard operations in his new role as the Deputy Commander for Industrial Operations, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA 04). With a focus on safety, culture and productivity at the NAVSEA 04 level, Brown set out to observe and gain insight about PHNSY & IMF functions that could help him provide better support for the shipyard’s mission. The Kitsap Credit Union Armed Forces Day Parade, held on the third Saturday in May in downtown Bremerton, has an annual attendance of 25,000-40,000 people and includes all branches of the military, police and firefighters, youth organizations, dignitaries, commercial businesses, car clubs and more. James Campbell HS Students Explore Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Trade Opportunities

Rylan Lau, (left) 11th grader at James Campbell High School, is guided by Melvin Cabaccang, a welding skills instructor from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) during a career-oriented field trip held in mid-April. This event is one of several PHNSY & IMF community outreach programs conducted with local schools. The visit gathered 26 students and three teachers from the school’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) program that offers students insight in trade industry occupations. During the field trip, representatives from the shipyard’s Production Resource Training Department facilitated the students’ experience with a tour of its welding school including welding demonstrations and an overview of equipment and training facilities used in honing welding trade skills.
