Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division (NUWC) Keyport has a long history of partnering with educational institutions, from elementary schools to universities, in areas of mutual interest and mutual benefit. These educational relationships continue to grow and develop, as does the importance of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects to tomorrow's workforce.
In fiscal year 2015, NUWC Keyport employees, in partnership with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS&IMF), mentored over 2,300 students in STEM subjects. NUWC Keyport sponsored STEM outreach programs include elementary science enhancement, underwater remotely operated vehicle challenges, FIRST Robotics, and Navy STEM Days. NUWC Keyport and PSNS&IMF employees also supported more than 3,000 additional students at command sponsored activities including hosting booths at the Kitsap Water Festival, attending Girls Engaging in Math and Science, and judging science fairs.
Through these and other activities students gain invaluable experiences, learn to relate the skills and learning opportunities to real world challenges, and discover career opportunities.
