Description: Chapter 408 describes the operation and maintenance of fiber optic systems. It has been prepared for the training of and use by both user and installation personnel. Information provided on operation, maintenance, and installation is descriptive and procedural, and pertains to fiber optic systems aboard all U.S. Navy ships.

Maintenance Plan

Subject: Cable, Fiber Optic, Topology (FOCT) Maintenance Plan.
Description: The Department of the Navy currently operates with three levels of maintenance (organizational, intermediate, and depot) for repairable/replaceable items. Each level of maintenance may perform the maintenance actions designated as applicable. In some cases, alternative maintenance concepts may be appropriate, but shall be supported by a Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-1390B.

This Maintenance Plan designates the applicable levels and parts for repair action.
