Making the cut: Team turns an employee idea into a process improvement that will save thousands of hours of labor — every time it's used.
June 23, 2022
Capt. Jip Mosman, commander, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, congratulates Tracy Hartz, work leader, Shop 26, Welders, during a Bravo Zulu award ceremony May 27, 2022 at PSNS & IMF in Bremerton, Washington. Hartz, who started as a PSNS & IMF helper-trainee eight years ago, suggested cutting away a much smaller portion of the reboiler tank to access the tubing inside. This suggestion eventually resulted in an estimated 4,400 labor hours saved — every time the team does this job. (U.S. Navy photos by Scott Hansen)
