CRANE, Indiana - A Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) Applied Science and Demand Management Department employee has been named a Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Systems IWS (PEO IWS) 2.0 award winner.

John Jones, who serves as PEO IWS 2E5’s installation and asset manager, recently received notification that he was selected to receive the PEO IWS 2.0 2nd Quarter Excellence Award for efforts that were instrumental to bringing improved Electronic Warfare capability to the fleet.  Jones is credited with ensuring the successful installation of the AN/SLQ-32(V)6 Countermeasures Set aboard the USS Bainbridge, DDG-96.  The upgrade, commonly referred to as SEWIP Block 2 (Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program Block 2), provides advanced ship self-defense capability.

“This much-needed upgrade gives our sailors the ability to defend against and defeat modern threats and take back the Electronic Warfare spectrum,” Jones noted.  The Block 2 upgrade provides increased sensitivity, fine angular resolution, elevation measurement and increased situational awareness, which all help the ship evade or eliminate the threat.

“While this individual award is much appreciated, I really owe a great deal of thanks to numerous people who were central to the success of this installation,” Jones said.  “This is just one more reminder of how relevant NSWC Crane is to the US Navy.  I think I can speak for everyone involved when I say installation of this upgrade re-ignited an incredible sense of pride in country and also resulted in a great deal of satisfaction knowing the ship and her crew are now even better equipped to go into harm’s way.”
