BREMERTON, Wash. –
Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility hosted a technology showcase July 31-Aug. 1, at the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside, in downtown Bremerton.
According to Ryan Marson, cell manager, Code 100TO.4, Digital Transformation Office, the event featured 50 industry partners who demonstrated tools, emerging technologies and various technical solutions for more than 692 attendees.
Event organizers solicited feedback from the workforce in April to customize the technologies focus areas requested, Marson said. Based on that feedback, products from the following technology focus areas were represented:
- Advanced/additive manufacturing
- Energy
- Safety and Environmental health
- Coatings and corrosion prevention (including outdoor plasma blast and laser ablation technology demonstrations)
- Workforce development tools
- Reliability improvement
- Enhanced inspections
- Business IT analytics
- Conditions-based and predictive maintenance
Marson said some other emerging technologies were more heavily represented this year than in previous PSNS & IMF Technology Showcase events. They included:
- Robotics
- Artificial Intelligence
- Machine learning
- Digital twins
- Immersive Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality equipment
If a showcase attendee saw a capability that might help them solve problems and accomplish work more safely and effectively, and they need assistance with getting it approved or purchased, they can contact Code 100TO.3, Technology Integration Office, which is located in Building 290, 4th Floor, Room 401, Marson said. They can also be reached at 360-476-0080.
Tools and technologies featured at past PSNS & IMD Technology Showcase events have been brought into the shipyard, and other technologies are currently being explored by various shops and codes throughout the command, Marson said.
Rob LaTendresse, director, Code 100TO, Command Transformation Office, who attended both days of the showcase, said he was impressed with the variety of technologies and potential solutions he saw demonstrated this year.
“I was so excited about the opportunity to see and touch the solutions that our industry partners are developing that could be integrated to improve our work systems,” LaTendresse said.
“If you are interested in utilizing any of the technologies presented at the Technology Showcase this year, the Technology Integration Office can help,” Marson said. “Assistance is available with authorizations and approvals as well as identifying funding sources, procurement, implementation, sharing results with the rest of the corporation, etc.”
