WASHINGTON – Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) was recently selected as the 2021 Regional Maintenance Center Excellence Award recipient.
The award, presented annually by Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center (CNRMC) and Director, Surface Ship, Maintenance Modernization and Sustainment (SEA 21) with the concurrence of both Surface Type Commanders, recognizes the Regional Maintenance Center (RMC) that best demonstrates superior Surface Performance to Plan (P2P) performance and exceptional delivery of maintenance, modernization and sustainment support to the Fleet.
“The selection as this year’s RMC Excellence Award winner solidifies what I’ve always known – that FDRMC is the premier RMC executing maintenance at the tip of the spear,” said Capt. Brian Karosich, FDRMC commanding officer. “Our team is adaptable, mission focused and passionate about their mission to fix ships whenever and wherever needed throughout the Fifth and Sixth Fleet areas of responsibility. Together with our Fleet, Type Commander and Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) partners, FDRMC ensures our ships are in the best readiness posture possible and that our operational commanders have fullest range of tools at their disposal to serve our Nation and uphold our commitments to our allies and partners while forward deployed.”
FDRMC’s fiscal year 2021 performance to plan approach helped them achieve nearly 100% of their Depot Maintenance objectives. Earlier award of contracts, increased focus on work package quality, additional focus on long lead material and relentless focus on execution were key tenants of their improvement strategy. FDRMC focused on improving continuous maintenance availability, technical assist visits and emergent repair performance as well and made expanding their capabilities and improving their self-sufficiency a key transformation priority.
“FDRMC has been impressive to watch in action this past year,” said Rear Adm. Eric Ver Hage, CNRMC and Director, SEA 21. “They met challenge after challenge head on, with tenacity, and with creativity”, he continued. “FDRMC’s commitment to mission is unmatched and as they worked to deliver their ships on-time and with required work complete, they really set the bar high. I am really proud of the FDRMC team and pleased to see them recognized in this way.”
In addition to their selection for the 2021 RMC Excellence Award, FDRMC was nominated as Commander Navy Regional Maintenance Center’s nominee for the annual Secretary of Defense Maintenance Award for a field-level award in the small competitive category.
FDRMC provides contract management oversight, fleet technical assistance, voyage repair and diving and salvage to Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Europe and the Middle East and forward deployed ships in the Fifth and Sixth Fleet Areas of Responsibility.
SEA 21 is the dedicated life cycle management organization for the Navy's in-service surface ships and is responsible for managing critical maintenance, sustainment, modernization, training and inactivation programs.
CNRMC oversees the operations of Regional Maintenance Centers in their execution of surface ship maintenance, modernization and sustainment.
