PANAMA CITY, Fla. –
Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) presented 17 Navy Civilian Service Achievement Medals June 21. The medals recognize those who sustained performance or specific achievement of a superlative nature at the equivalent level of the Navy.
Recipients were awarded for their dedication to the success and health of the command.
Robert Walker, deputy technical director at NSWC PCD, said it is an honor to recognize those who prioritized the well-being of everyone and hit the ground running to create process improvements and meet a seemingly impossible demand.
“It’s always a great day when we are able to recognize employee achievements for the work they do supporting the war fighter,” said Walker. “However, today’s awards are equally important but uniquely different as they are presented because during a nationwide pandemic each of the recipients found it within themselves to look beyond their own needs and provide solutions that served the greater good.”
Individuals awarded were a part of projects including reducing the level of risk of programs, creating ventilators at the breakout of COVID-19, producing hand sanitizer for the command, and creating kits which enabled lip reading.
Capt. David Back, NSWC PCD commanding officer, emphasized the impact the awardees had.
“These awards recognize those who created a path when there wasn’t one during such uncertain times,” said Back. “After facing many challenges, our personnel developed solutions that impacted our community and those beyond.”
The 17 awardees are:
Lacie Meeks
Anthony Bleichner
Jacob Cornman
Kirk VanZandt
Zhen Zhang
Jeffrey Eichler
Dr. Travis Hand
Dr. Joshua Kogot
Jonathan Chapman
Dr. Christopher Musto
Jason Scott
Dustin Bride
Dr. Gregory Murphy
Dr. Andrew Schicho
Gavin Taylor
Jesse Waymire
Holly Gardner
Lacie Meeks shared her gratitude for receiving this award and for the support of her supervisors.
“I am beyond grateful to be recognized for the changes made in this program, but I could not have done this without the support I received from my supervisors,” said Meeks. “I watched this program being developed by a previous mentor and wanted to return the program to how it was established under their leadership.”
