NSWC Panama City Comptroller personnel achieve professional certifications

By Katherine Mapp NSWC PCD Public Affairs

Comptroller personnel at Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) recently achieved a prestigious certification that is fundamental to establish a broad set of financial management skills.

NSWC PCD’s Samantha Snellen, Ashley Simpers, Paige Sauls, Komal Patel, and Linda Magee accomplished the Certified Defense Financial Management (CDFM) certification. The CDFM is a professional, assessment-based certification for financial management professionals who are civilian or military members of the Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Coast Guard, or employees of defense contractors and suppliers.

The certification covers resource management environment, budget and cost analysis and accounting and finance and individuals must complete continuing professional education credits to maintain certification. Additionally, the CDFM requires completion of a 2 year DoD financial management experience requirement. In total, participants have up to 4 years to complete all requirements.

According to the American Society of Military Comptrollers, the CDFM certification is not required but it is encouraged as it represents a valuable credential that impresses selecting officials with the individual¹s drive and initiative. The CDFM certification also enables leaders within the DoD to be confident in hiring CDFMs from anywhere else in the DoD knowing that they possess the skills the job requires.
