Summer programs at NUWC Division Newport teach students about engineering and teamwork

NEWPORT, R.I. - Undersea Technology Apprentice Program participants Zachary Quintal (from left) of St. George’s School in Middletown, Rhode Island; Anthony DaSilva, a home-schooled student; Jake Greene of Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island; and Sofia DiBiasio of Narragansett High School in Rhode Island, test their remotely operated underwater vehicle before a competition held at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport on Aug. 16, 2023. Each summer, Division Newport hosts two, three-week sessions of the Undersea Technology Apprentice Program, where students work alongside scientists and engineers to learn hands-on STEM skills.
