NUWC Division Newport marks the 60th anniversary of the loss of the USS Thresher

NEWPORT, R.I. - Flanked by Sailors assigned to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, Commanding Officer Capt. Chad F. Hennings addresses a crowd during a remembrance ceremony held at the command’s flagpole on April 10, 2023, to mark the 60th anniversary of the USS Thresher tragedy. While conducting deep-dive trials on April 10, 1963, the technologically advanced nuclear submarine experienced a failure and sank, killing all 129 people on board.
