IMAGE: DAHLGREN, Va. (April 24, 2018) - U.S. Rep. Jody Hice, (R-Ga.) is pictured with Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) leaders in front of the Navy's electromagnetic railgun laboratory launcher. The congressman - who was briefed by NSWCDD engineers on electromagnetic launchers and hypervelocity projectiles - observed the launcher fire a projectile in a demonstration. Hice also watched a laser weapon demonstrated during briefings on directed energy weapons and development. Throughout his tour of NSWCDD facilities, Hice saw the command's capability to develop and integrate complex warfare systems, including the ability to incorporate electric weapons technology into existing and future fighting forces and platforms. Standing left to right: Stephen Malyevac, NSWCDD distinguished scientist for surface engagement; Chester Petry, NSWCDD electromagnetic railgun lead systems engineer; U.S. Rep. Jody Hice; Dale Sisson, NSWCDD deputy technical director; and Stephanie Hornbaker, NSWCDD Gun and Electric Weapon Systems department head. (U.S. Navy photo by John Joyce/Released)
