Edgar Benson is currently the Executive Director of Trident Refit Facility, Bangor. He leads a team of nearly 2,000 civilians and military personnel who are passionately supporting the command’s efforts to get real and get better at SSBN maintenance.
He is a lifetime resident of Poulsbo, Washington where he and his wife are raising two children. While completing his degree in chemistry at Western Washington University, he worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and with the Washington State Ferry system.
Edgar started his career as a chemist in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Laboratory Division in 2003, where he also served as the Nuclear Water Chemical Inspection Program Manager and the Analytical Chemistry Branch Head. In 2015 he moved to Trident Refit Facility Bangor as the Scientific Services Division Head. He started his role as Quality Assurance Director in 2020. On May 31, 2024, Edgar assumed the role of Executive Director of TRFB.
He enjoys working around his property, boating on the Hood Canal, fishing in the Straight of Juan de Fuca, crabbing in the Puget Sound, camping near any beach or mountain in the Pacific Northwest, and just about any other outdoor activity with his family. He has a passion for people, management systems, and process improvement.
