Resistors are seldom subjected to any additional testing (or screening) by the user prior to assembly, even on a sample basis. Exceptions are low tolerance resistors, resistors from a vendor with known quality problems, or when auto-insertion equipment can perform the testing at an extremely low cost. The primary reason for the lack of testing is that experience shows fallout rates are not sufficient to justify the cost of testing. It is normally more cost effective to test more expensive, failure prone parts that are more likely to suffer from handling induced damage (e.g., microcircuits).
