Optoelectronic products should be subjected to design evaluations and assessments that establish it as a potentially viable product in anticipated applications. The choice of specific tests, the sample configuration, and quantity need to be informative and cost effective. In practice, the assessment really qualifies the manufacturer’s basic design, processes and controls.
MIL-PRF-19500 provides excellent guidelines for the qualification, screening, and conditioning of optoelectronic components.  In addition, see the guidelines established for discrete semiconductor components.
