Scientist and Engineer Development Program

The NSWC Carderock Division's Scientist and Engineer Development Program (SEDP) is a three-year professional development program for all entry-level employees filling engineering, physical science, mathematics and related positions. The program consists of three main elements: training, mentorship and developmental assignments. Training is a combination of on-the-job experiences, required orientation courses and special developmental courses. The new employee establishes a mentor/mentee relationship with both a senior member of the organization as well as peer mentors to share experiences and knowledge. Finally, the program requires a minimum of three career-development assignments in areas outside of the employee's core technical area. NSWC Carderock Division Instruction CARDEROCKDIVINST 12410.14C provides detailed information on the program including the SEDP Handbook that describes the roles and responsibilities of program participants, supervisors and the Workforce Development Branch.

Naval Acquisition Development Program

The Naval Acquisition Development Program (NADP) is a premier program within the Department of Defense for developing the future acquisition workforce. The program recruits and hires high performing entry level and associate or journey-level employees and centrally funds and manages their development into Acquisition Workforce (AWF) professionals. The program offers an extraordinary opportunity for those that desire to rapidly advance their professional career and feel a sense of pride supporting the mission of the Department of the Navy. Through the program, participants will become certified in a designated career field such as engineering, business and logistics; work in a variety of developmental assignments throughout the Naval Enterprise; travel for enriching learning experiences; be exposed to senior leadership; and have an opportunity to pursue advanced degrees. More information about the Navy's NADP program can be found at: http://www.secnav.navy.mil/rda/workforce/Pages/NADP.aspx.

Mentor Program

As a NSWC Carderock Division employee, you have the opportunity to receive professional counseling from a dedicated mentor through the Mentor Program Network. This web-based mentoring process guides the mentee through assessing his/her development needs, finding a suitable mentor from a dynamic database, and creating a mentoring agreement. It also supports the participants through utilities such as messaging and calendar functions, allowing for collaborative discussions and easy planning and scheduling.

Extended Learning

Post-graduate degrees and other extended learning opportunities are available to employees.
