NEWPORT, R.I. - A Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport team of oceanographers, marine biologists and engineers is studying the melons of odontocetes, or toothed whales, to provide the U.S. Navy with more information about mammal exposure to noise and shock loads from underwater explosions. Principal investigator Monica DeAngelis (center) holds a mammal skull of a harbor porpoise, with team members Lauren Marshall (left) and University of Rhode Island intern Catherine Eno (right).
