CRANE, Ind. –
Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) Electro-Optic Technology Division (EOTD) Chief Engineer (CHENG) Philip D. Smith received the Department of the Navy (DON) Civilian Service Achievement Medal (CSAM). He received the award for “professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving” as CHENG.
“Through his hard work and dedication, Mr. Smith upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service,” said Chuck Fravell, a deputy division manager at NSWC Crane. “He is most deserving of this award!”
His award certificate letter says his “work has been of substantial benefit to the United States Navy and to the nation.”
Smith not only completed his CHENG duties of firmly establishing division technical review processes, he also ensured these critical processes continued despite constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Smith also provided guidance to EOTD’s high-visibility AN/SAY-3 I-Stalker support team. In addition, he established the Installation Readiness Review process to ensure that risks inherent to the Navy Modernization process were identified and addressed.
