TRFB Opens New 24-hour Micromart

By Lonnie Collier TRFB

A military fights on its stomach, as the saying goes, but now with the opening of a new micromart at Trident Refit Facility-Bangor, the 24 hours a day, seven days a week command now has a wider variety of resources to fill those stomachs.

On Dec. 17, TRFB held a brief ribbon cutting with members of the Navy Exchange to celebrate the opening.

“Thank you all for coming,”, said Cricket Mathews, Naval Base Kitsap Navy Exchange General Manager.

“The opening of this micromart is just another way the exchange will continue to support you, our customers.”

The facility offers a one-stop-shop for drinks, snacks and other food items at all times, especially benefiting the workforce that conduct operations outside of the normal cafeteria hours.

This event also marks the 106th micromart opening within Navy Region Northwest’s area of responsibility.

U.S. Navy Capt. Mike Eberlein, commanding officer, TRFB, was especially proud of the work that had gone into making this event happen and the work involved in getting the micromart up and running and fully operational.

“It has taken months of planning, contracting, and construction to get the micromart going,” said Eberlein.

“Special thanks to the NEX team, our building managers and others who answered the workforce’s call and provide these options for those working at any time, day or night.”

The micromart had a “soft opening”, Dec. 5, to test systems and capabilities before moving into full operations.

So far, the facility is operating as expected and is providing additional items to the workforce whenever they are needed.

This can be particularly important during inclement weather events when the workforce is working odd hours and supplies can be limited.

The event included remarks by Mathews and Eberlein, followed by a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the micromart that had some of the workforce and other NEX employees in attendance.
