ODON, Ind. – Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony and networking event at WestGate Academy to open NSWC Crane@WestGate. The ceremony and open house event took place in Odon, Indiana at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12.
NSWC Crane@WestGate is the relocation of Workforce Development, Recruiting and Student Outreach, Staffing and Classification Branches, and Deputy for Small Business Office off-base to the nearby technology park where resources are more accessible to the public.
“NSWC Crane@WestGate will serve as the front door to Crane,” said Dr. Angie Lewis, NSWC Crane Technical Director. “This newly renovated space at WestGate Academy will provide opportunities for community members, students, business owners, and innovators from across the country access to NSWC Crane resources without having access to the installation. Many organizations have come together to create NSWC Crane@WestGate and make this possible—we are committed to the success of our workforce, our mission, and this community.”
NSWC Crane Workforce Development includes initiatives such as its internal education curriculum, Crane Division University. It also includes programs to achieve higher education through a wide variety of Navy and DOD resources. Recruiting ensures NSWC Crane attracts and recruits diverse talent across a wide array of experiences and expertise. NSWC Crane awards hundreds of thousands to small businesses every year; to learn more about this growth, read about NAVSEA award received last year.
CAPT McKay, NSWC Crane Commanding Officer, says NSWC Crane@WestGate will enhance opportunities for both NSWC Crane as well as the larger community.
“The NSWC Crane workforce provides critical value to our nation’s security as well as global stability,” said CAPT McKay. “Our collaboration with industry, academia, military, and other government drives innovation—NSWC Crane@WestGate will provide new ways to engage these communities.”
