Captain Dennis L. Richardson is a native of Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Henry Ford High School. He entered the United States Navy and completed Recruit Training in Great Lakes, Illinois in November 1995. After 10 years of enlisted service, he commissioned through the Navy’s Limited Duty Officer Program as a Surface Engineering/Repair (6130) Officer. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Illinois Carbondale and a graduate degree from American Military University.
Captain Richardson’s sea duty assignments include USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60), USS Rentz (FFG 46), USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62), USS Ponce (LPD 15), USS San Antonio (LPD 17), USS Comstock (LSD 45), USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) and USS Bataan (LHD 5).
Ashore, he served as Military Affairs Officer and Senior Instructor, Great Lakes, IL; Repair Officer and Deperming/Degaussing Officer, Naval Station Norfolk, VA.; Maintenance Officer at Assault Craft Unit FOUR; Senior Inspector for the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) and most recently as Assistant Chief of Staff, N43 Material and Readiness for Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group TWO, Joint Expeditionary Base-Little Creek, VA.
Captain Richardson is currently serving as the Executive Officer, Mid Atlantic Regional Maintenance Activity, Norfolk, VA.
Captain Richardson’s decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (third award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (seventh award), Navy and Marines Corps Achievement Medal (sixth award), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (second award) and numerous unit and campaign awards. He is the recipient of the Secretary of Defense Maintenance award, American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Claud A. Jones Fleet Engineer of Year award, and Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA).
