CAPT Brandon Monaghan, USN

Commanding Officer, NUWC Division, Keyport

Captain Brandon Monaghan is a native of Portland, Oregon. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He completed a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2005.

 

After completing the nuclear training pipeline, he reported aboard USS Olympia (SSN 717) as a division officer in December, 2006 during an arduous Engineered Refueling Overhaul. From September 2011 to July 2014, he served as the Combat Systems Officer on USS Asheville (SSN 758) completing Western Pacific and Southern Command deployments. Ashore, he has served on the staff of Commander, US Naval Forces Central Command, as Training Officer at Undersea Rescue Command, and as a member of the Personnel Exchange Program with the Royal Navy’s Maritime Warfare Centre.

 

He was selected for transfer to the Engineering Duty Officer community in 2016. His acquisition tours include Deputy Project Superintendent, USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23) FY18 EDSRA at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, Assistant Program Manager for the Modified Virginia Class Subsea & Seabed Warfare Platform in the Advanced Undersea Systems (PMS 394) and Virginia Class Submarine (PMS 450) program offices, and Principal Assistant Program Manager, SSN Depot Maintenance, In-Service Attack Submarines program office (PMS 392). He also spent six months reporting directly to PEO Attack Submarines as the NAVSEA on-site representative at Northrop Grumman Marine Systems, Sunnyvale CA.

CAPT Monaghan most recently served as the Principle Assistant Program Manager, SSN Depot Maintenance, In-Service Attack Submarines Program Office (PMS 392).

Captain Monaghan’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is qualified in submarine warfare, a US Navy SCUBA Diver, and authorized to wear the Deep Submergence pin.
