COMMANDER MICAH D. MUNDEN

Officer in Charge, Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center, Detachment Bahrain

A native of Frisco, N.C., Cmdr. Micah D. Munden enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 2005 and completed the Machinist Mate nuclear training pipeline in 2007.  He graduated from Berry College with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry.  In June 2007, he commissioned into the Surface Warfare community as an ensign through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Fla.  In 2014, he graduated from Naval Postgraduate School with a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Munden’s surface warfare officer (SWO) assignments include mine countermeasure Crew Dominant (embarked on MCM 4, MCM 6 and MCM 8) as the First Lieutenant and Weapons Officer where he earned his SWO qualification and USS Doyle (FFG 39) as the Damage Control Assistant. 

In July 2011, Munden laterally transferred into the Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) community. His tours as an EDO include Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center, where he earned his EDO qualification as a landing helicopter dock (LHD) project officer and then served as the guided-missile destroyer (DDG) Class Team Officer; Commander, Naval Surface Force Pacific as the LHD/LHA Type Desk Officer; Commander, Naval Surface Squadron Five as the Maintenance and Material Officer (N43); and as Deputy Waterfront Operations Officer at Southeast Regional Maintenance Center. Most recently he served as Lead Electrical Inspector, Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV), Little Creek, Va.

Munden assumed duties and responsibilities as officer in charge of Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) Detachment Bahrain in July 2024. At the tip of the spear, FDRMC Detachment Bahrain is responsible for the maintenance and modernization of homeported surface ships as well as planned and emergent maintenance for all U.S. Fifth Fleet deployed ships. 

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various campaign, unit and service awards.
