High School Internships

Students in the Undersea Technology Apprentice Program (UTAP) test their unmanned undersea vehicle. Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport offers student internships for high school students.

Undersea Technology Apprentice Program (UTAP)

The application for the 2026 summer sessions will be available on this page on March 1, 2026.

UTAP provides an opportunity for high school students to study and work part time for three weeks during the summer alongside NUWC Division Newport scientists and engineers. In the process, students gain valuable insights by working with advanced technology to develop a solution to real-world challenges.

The program is open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors only. Please note that all application materials must be included for a student to be considered for an internship. Students will be notified by mid-May if accepted.
