During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. The first modernization action proposes to construct and operate a new graving dry dock and waterfront production facility to support current and future classes of the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines.

NUWC Division Newport announces plans for National Center of Excellence for Tactical Oceanography at Defense Innovation Days

Carlos Del Toro (center), Secretary of the Navy, is flanked by members of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport workforce during the Southeastern New England Defense Industrial Alliance Defense Innovation Days, which were held Aug. 26-28 at the Marriott Hotel in Newport. A keynote speaker, Del Toro highlighted all aspects of the defense ecosystem to emphasize the importance of working together.
