During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. The first modernization action proposes to construct and operate a new graving dry dock and waterfront production facility to support current and future classes of the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) held a groundbreaking for its new production training facility July 1, which will consolidate training currently spread across 26 different NNSY locations and eight departments into a single 157,000 square-foot, $64.7 million dollar facility. NUWC Division Newport staff win 2022 Excellence in Navy Public Affairs awards

Kerri Spero, a visual information specialist in the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport’s Visual Information Branch, won an individual award in the 2022 Excellence in Navy Public Affairs program in the Graphic Design-Digital Art category for artwork used in a workforce recruitment brochure titled, “Set Your Course Into the Future.” This is the fourth award for Spero in the past three years.
