During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. The first modernization action proposes to construct and operate a new graving dry dock and waterfront production facility to support current and future classes of the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) held a groundbreaking for its new production training facility July 1, which will consolidate training currently spread across 26 different NNSY locations and eight departments into a single 157,000 square-foot, $64.7 million dollar facility. Technical director’s ‘passion’ to NUWC Division Newport’s mission highlighted during retirement ceremony

Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport Technical Director Ron Vien (from left), receives a Department of Navy Superior Civilian Service Award, the second highest Navy award bestowed upon civilians, from Rear Adm. Kevin Byrne, commander, Naval Surface and Undersea Warfare Centers, on March 30, 2023.
