During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. The first modernization action proposes to construct and operate a new graving dry dock and waterfront production facility to support current and future classes of the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines.

Navy’s advanced technology exercise showcases NSWC Carderock capabilities

Carderock’s Asymmetric Industrial Warfare (AIW) team, led by Garry Shields, demonstrating their raft made of foam and bamboo along the Intracoastal Waterway near Camp Lejeune, N.C., at the 2021 Naval Integration in Contested Environments Advanced Naval Technology Exercise on April 12. The AIW team specializes in building expendable platforms such as rafts, shelters, docks and piers.
