During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. The first modernization action proposes to construct and operate a new graving dry dock and waterfront production facility to support current and future classes of the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) held a groundbreaking for its new production training facility July 1, which will consolidate training currently spread across 26 different NNSY locations and eight departments into a single 157,000 square-foot, $64.7 million dollar facility. Carderock Division Changes Command

A Sailor at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division holds the Legion of Merit Award that Capt. Michael Richman (center), chief of staff for Naval Surface and Undersea Warfare Centers, presented to Capt. Cedric McNeal for his successful time as commanding officer of Carderock Division. McNeal was relieved by Capt. Todd Hutchison in a ceremony in West Bethesda, Md., on July 10, 2020.
