During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) held a groundbreaking for its new production training facility July 1, which will consolidate training currently spread across 26 different NNSY locations and eight departments into a single 157,000 square-foot, $64.7 million dollar facility. Battle of Midway and D-Day Exhibits

Udo Goff – a Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) defense contractor and avid collector of World War II artifacts – explains the unique histories behind various Normandy D-Day invasion items to Jon Dachos, an NSWCDD Human Systems Integration lead engineer. Goff’s D-Day collection is on display at the command’s Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems Department lobby until June 12. The retired Navy commander is also exhibiting Battle of Midway artifacts at the Center for Surface Combat Systems and AEGIS Training and Readiness Center lobby until June 10. This is the third year that Goff displayed his personal collection at Dahlgren in commemoration of the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of Midway – major turning points for the U.S. military and allied forces during World War II.
