MWR manages recreation programs that provide opportunities for social interaction, self-expression, leisure pursuits, and cultural and educational activities that appeal to all segments of the community.

Community Classes
Rota MWR Community Classes offer the opportunity to learn new skills or improve existing skills. Participants of all ages have the opportunity to take classes in a variety of fields: piano, guitar, voice, kid’s music, Spanish, ballroom, Sevillanas, dance, belly dance, Aikido, robotics, and art classes. Community Class instructors are military spouses, active duty military members, and local national contractors. Instructing allows participants and teachers to benefit personally and professionally from integrating with the community. Outdoor Recreation (ODR)
Navy Outdoor Recreation offers a rich array of day and weekend adventure trips, equipment rental, and a special climbing wall to practice free climbing.

Outdoor Recreation offers the following trips:

  • Canyon Descending
  • Deep Sea Fishing
  • Skiing in Granada (Winter)
  • Sailing and Windsurfing
  • Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) and Surfing
  • Spartan Race in Valencia
  • La Tomatina Festival in Valencia
  • White Water Rafting
  • Kayaking – 1 day or overnight
  • Hiking

Trips to Fit
MWR Traveler offers customized cultural, historical, and gastronomical tours as well as outdoor adventure trips throughout Andalucía. They do all the planning for you! You just have to decide when and where you want to go, the size of your group, and your trip expectations and they will prepare an itinerary and price quote.

  • Semana Santa in Sevilla (Easter)
  • Various Ferias (Spring Fairs) to include: Sevilla, Jerez, and Malaga
  • Arcos Running of the Bulls (Seasonal)
  • Arcos Living Nativity (December)
  • Foodie Tours: Jamón Ibérico (cured ham), Olive and Grape Harvest (Seasonal)

Rota Golf Course
Rota Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course and covers more than 200 acres. It is the oldest golf course in Southern Spain and open 12 months out of the year. The Pro Shop can arrange golf lessons with one of three PGA Golf Professionals or assist with rental clubs and equipment sales. Practice your game on the driving and chipping range and the putting green. Compete in weekly stroke play events and special tournaments. Tee Times are available 7 days a week.

Aquatics Center
The Aquatics Center has everything you need for a complete water-fitness workout. If lap swimming is not enough, you’ll find the core workout station with a pull-up bar, stationary bikes, row machine, sit-up mats, TRX, and SPRI bands. This combination of training can help you burn calories, build muscle, and provide an option for high-intensity training.

The Aquatics Center includes a heated L-shaped indoor 25-meter pool with a 12 foot deep-end and seven swim lanes with five racing platforms. Six levels of (American Red Cross Learn to Swim) lessons are offered to children and adults throughout the year. There is an outside patio area available for group exercise sessions.

There is also an outdoor pool located in the Navy housing area open seasonally during the summer.

MWR Fitness Center
The MWR Fitness Center has everything you need to get into shape. Maintain or improve your fitness with MWR services and programs including personal training, group exercise classes, Cybex Selectorized equipment area, a weight room (free weights and functional fitness equipment), basketball court, racquetball courts, cardio room, shower, towels, and lockers for daily use or for rent. Additional facilities include tennis courts, sports fields (soccer, football and softball), running track, a multi-purpose Turf Field, and a spin class room.

Family Fitness
Family Fitness offers play areas and programs where your child can be safe and monitored within your eyesight while you exercise. Family Fitness provides a professional staff ready to help you and your children develop and achieve your fitness goals.

Intramural Sports
The Intramural Sports Program is designed to offer various sports leagues, tournaments, one-day events, and special events throughout the year to serve a large and diverse community. They encourage fair play, sportsmanship, and goodwill among all participants and staff and aim to provide physical and leadership development opportunities. The program strives to make the Intramural Sports program a positive addition to the Rota experience.

Youth Sports Program
The MWR Youth Sports Program offers a variety of organized sports and activities that promote the psychological, social and physical well being of Rota’s youth. The program offers recreational activities that enhance physical fitness, self-esteem, teamwork, and leadership skills. MWR provides the staff, equipment, and playing areas necessary for the athletic and recreational development of children. There are team sports such as baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, and flag football offered at different times during the year. There are also individual participation challenges such as 1k-3k fun runs, mini-triathlons, swimming events, and fitness clinics.

MWR Library
A world of knowledge is at your fingertips at the MWR Library. Whether you’re researching a term paper or you’d just like to find information on the internet, the MWR Library has all the information you need. There are thousands of books, magazines, and newspapers available. Every month, the MWR Library receives the latest book releases of every genre for all age groups. The MWR Library now has Nooks available for a 1 month check-out. If you’re not quite ready to bring it back, you can extend your check-out for up to 2 months! As always, the library is available to help assist you with creating a digital library account through Navy Digital Library so you can enjoy the thousands of books and videos available for free. The U.S. Navy General Library Program has developed an easier way to access a variety of free online library resources.
