NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPAYRD, Portsmouth, Va. –
Code 900 Production Resource Officer, Capt. Frank Gasperetti, congratulated James Anderson, who accepted the honor for Code 926 as part of the monthly conference room naming initiative June 13.
“Mr. Anderson has not only been the key to unlocking the development and skill of our workforce but also key to developing training staff to be as passionate as himself,” said Jason L. Wills, Code 926 Welding Shop Group Superintendent.
Anderson, a Workforce Development Lead, was chosen because of his passion for building an effective workforce development program and his commitment to building and improving the program for Code 926 and all the trades in Code 900.
Responding to the award, Anderson said, “I am honored by the award and didn’t expect it at all. I don’t do anything for any kind of award or monetary value, everything that I’m doing in this project was because I have a passion for training.” He added, “I have a passion for teaching. I have a passion for development of our people. It makes it easy to lead a group when you’ve been doing it for five years and you can see the strengths of our own groups.”
The second recipient of the monthly conference room naming initiative was Mr. James Hardin from Code 900, Outside Machine Shop (Shop 38).
Hardin was chosen for his leadership skills during a time when Shop 38 was undergoing an arduous learning curve.
“In summer of 2022, Shop 38 was faced with some very tough obstacles,” said John Rowe, formerly the Code 930 Mechanical Shop Group Supervisor.
Rowe added, “Mr. Hardin not only led qualified mechanics and supervisors on a learning journey, but he was also instrumental in working with …leadership to ensure weekly communications were being broadcasted to the most senior leadership level both inside, and outside, the shipyard.”
Hardin, who has been working at NNSY for 13 years, was honored by the recognition.
“I think this [award] is validation of all the work that we did last year,” said Hardin. “It’s nice that the production workers are being recognized.” When asked about the future, Hardin replied, “I am currently trying to get better at what I’m doing now so that I can train other people to do the same thing.”
