The Housing Service Center (HSC) assists DoD military, Allied Forces, civilian, and contractor personnel in locating housing in the Naples area. The HSC has main offices at the Gricignano Support Site and in Gaeta. Housing also has a one-stop center at Capodichino and a warehouse in Teverola.
There are two housing options once you move to NSA Naples — on-base housing or off-base housing (or as many put it, “living on the economy”). On-base housing availability changes depending on inventory, with military and families having priority and USCS getting priority after that.
Assignment of on-base housing is based on your family composition and pay grade. If given government housing, your unit will be furnished with appliances and loaner furniture until your household goods (HHGS) shipment arrives. You or your sponsor can obtain needed items from the Loaner Locker at the Fleet and Family Support Center until your express shipment arrives. Each on-base housing unit is constructed as either a six- or 12-plex apartment building. Apartments are configured as two-bedroom, three-bedroom, and four-bedroom units, with two bathrooms and are equipped with central heating and air conditioning, a laundry room with washer and dryer, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, a gas stove, and both 110-volt and 220-volt electrical receptacles. Each home has AFN satellite system access and ADSL internet access.
Most USCS employees’ moving to NSA Naples live on the economy (off-base). There are certainly pros and cons to living off-base, but one advantage is the larger housing options and immersion in Italian culture.
For those living off-base, civilian employees will receive a check-in briefing from the Human Resources Office (HRO) regarding your entitlements for Temporary Quarters Subsistence Allowance (TQSA) and Living Quarters Allowance (LQA).
After speaking with HRO, your next stop will be the Showing Services branch at the Housing Service Center (HSC). Showing Services staff maintain a database of available rental properties throughout the Naples area. Many of the properties have photos provided by the landlord. Showing tours may be set up with a counselor who will orient you to the many areas of Naples and explain your options. You may also register at the Navy-sponsored referral website www.Homes.mil to view available rental properties.
