What is it?

The AESD is a 1/100 scale model of a combatant ship  with configurable parts. Users are able to take off the back and put in different types of propulsion technology for testing.

How does it work?

AESD has significant applicability for future energy/ propulsion T&E. Reconfiguration is required to make it more robust & usable for planned testing. Complex hull-propulsor interaction of potential future systems will require larger scale testing to sufficiently reduce risk.

What will it accomplish?

Propulsion consumption accounts for 70% of the fleets fuel consumption. Recent hullform mods have resulted in a 2-4% savings per ship. Properly design future hulls and propulsors can save significantly more. Site location enables additional testing for signatures assessment of new technologies

FUEL AVOIDANCE:  1.7%
